God’s Christmas List for You

Fail not to call to mind, in the course of the twenty-fifth of this month, that the Divinest Heart that ever walked the earth was born on that day; and then smile and enjoy yourselves for the rest of it; for mirth is also of Heaven’s making. ~ Leigh Hunt

Lists! At this time of year, everyone has lists. Kids write lists to Santa, requesting favorite toys. Adults have To Do lists, gift lists, cleaning lists, shopping lists and party lists … Actually, the lists seem endless.

More than two decades ago, there was even a song about a “Grown-up Christmas List”. You may remember, it was recorded by Amy Grant. Our daughter loved it and performed with her friends, using hair brushes for microphones. During her senior year in high school, she and her best friend performed it as a duet in the annual Christmas program. Both the memories and the lyrics touch my heart every time I hear it. No more lives torn apart, wars would never start … time would heal all hearts … and love would never end. Truly an inspired Christmas list.

You might be surprised that God also has a Christmas List of gifts that He prepared for His children. He wrapped them all up into one grand present, His Son, Jesus. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son … We all know that verse—John 3:16—but have you ever considered all that God’s gift includes?

I remember one year when my parents wrapped a small gift in a larger box, then a larger one, and a larger one. Six or seven layers later, I found the grand prize. It was as much fun unwrapping them all as it was to finally discover whatever was inside. Well, Jesus is like that –multiple gifts around one package! Here is a partial list of God’s Christmas Gift for you.

Divine WisdomJesus was made unto us wisdom … (I Cor. 1:30). Wisdom is perhaps the most significant gift we receive from God, infinite Divine Mind. Wisdom for any situation is as close as the Holy Spirit within you. Proverbs says wisdom is the principal thing. Wisdom leads you in right thinking, words and actions. Wisdom guides your life rightly and helps you avoid the devil’s pitfalls and minefields. The Apostle James encourages, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him” (v. 1:5). No matter what you face, go to God first and ask Him to help you sort out the mess until you find the message—the answer you need to unwrap His blessing in your situation.

Supernatural HealingGod anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, and He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38). Since the Bible declares that Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever, He is still in the healing ministry.  Peter confirmed the prophecy of Isaiah, declaring “by [Jesus’] stripes ye were healed” (v. 2:24). ‘Were’ is past-tense, already done! Jesus, the Lamb of God, paid for your healing just as surely as he paid for your salvation. It is His ‘gift’ that you unwrap with your faith.

Perfect PeaceThou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusts in Thee (Is. 26:3). At Jesus’ birth, the angels declared, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, good will toward men!” The Prince of Peace had arrived! Later, Jesus Himself declared: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid,” (John 14:27). No matter what tribulations you face, Jesus is ever-present to give you His perfect peace.

Infinite MercyO give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever (Ps. 107:1). God’s mercy is as infinite as He is. He is rich in mercy! God’s mercy offers love and grace instead of punishment, shame and guilt. Mercy is a part of His great grace and favor which He bestows on you. Because of Jesus, you have the spiritual opportunity to sit with Him in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6). Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father, and you are there with Him! Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Heb. 4:16).

Overflowing ProvisionMy cup runneth over! (Ps. 23:5). There are dozens of Bible verses that proclaim God’s desire for you to be fully, abundantly supplied. But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God, for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth (Deut. 8:18). God’s covenant promise includes everything you need plus an overflow so that you can be a blessing to others.  And I will give thee the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, who call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel (Is. 45:3). Jesus Himself explained the principle of the hundredfold return on your giving (sowing) into the Kingdom. God wants you RICH!

Abundant BlessingThe Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and He shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee (Deut. 28:8). It doesn’t matter where you live or what you do, God can bless you far above all you can ask or think! Everything He wanted to give to His children was wrapped up in Jesus, and gifted to mankind on that starry night in Bethlehem.

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits! (Ps. 68:19). God’s Christmas list includes righteousness, grace, favor, hope, salvation, sanctification, redemption, strength, long life, peace, mercy, kindness, forgiveness, power, healing, provision—whatever you need; and all of it has already been given to you through the miracle of Jesus Christ. He bore your sins so that you could be righteous. He was made poor so that you could be rich. He was wounded so that you could be healed.

So how do you get all the gifts on God’s Christmas list? Like a child! Your kids don’t have to work for their Christmas presents. They simply believe in Christmas and wait patiently (or not!) until the day arrives when they can see for themselves the bounty under the tree. God Himself declared that all of His gifts—wrapped up in the Blessing—are only available by faith. For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God (Eph. 2:8). Whatever you need from God’s Christmas list is ready and waiting. Unwrap it with your faith and thank Him for His generous Gift.
