How to Receive an Abundance of Blessing

Expect your every need to be met. Expect the answer to every problem, expect abundance on every level. ~ Eileen Caddy

We have a small creek that flows past our house. At one point, it pours over a large rock, splashing merrily into a mini-pool, as it continues its journey toward greater things. I love to hear the water as it constantly, effortlessly tumbles itself over the edge of that rock.

Those waters bring instant refreshing. Our pups play in the stream. As kids we searched for crayfish under rocks along the creek bed. On hot summer days, we splashed in the water and waded in the stream. Our philosophy was “the wetter, the better!”

Spring rains and snow-melt push our little stream to its banks and sometimes beyond, as it rushes to join the waters of the Allegheny River, then the Ohio, the Mississippi and the Gulf of Mexico. Our little creek…separate from, but part of, the great earthly system of life-giving water.

I was thinking about that stream of ever-flowing water as I contemplated God’s ever-present goodness and supply. The Bible tells us that the windows of heaven are open unto us and that He pours our His blessing upon us so that there is not room enough to receive it. In Psalm 23, the psalmist declares, my cup runneth over. Deuteronomy 28 promises that all these blessings shall come on you and overtake you.

God’s Blessing is like that little waterfall. It flows constantly, continually, effortlessly and eternally. God’s Word declares that He never changes … so the blessing never stops. God’s love, His promises, His goodness and provision never dry up. If we are not experiencing His blessing in our lives, it’s because we’re not standing under the waterfall. We’re not playing in the stream.

Hebrews 11:6 tells us that we must believe that God is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. God’s rewards, His Blessings, flow continually. If you don’t believe that, look at the sunshine, the rain and the seasons. For He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust (Matt. 5:45). The ebb and flow of Life is unending. God decreed, While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease (Gen. 8:22).

The waterfall, the blessing-fall, from heaven is available to anyone who will come and stand under it. Love, joy, peace, abundance, forgiveness, grace, mercy, eternal Life, power – the list is as endless as my continually flowing stream.

Imagine for a moment, a giant fountain in Heaven that flows constantly. Earth is the basin that the waters of ‘all sufficiency in all things’ pour into. If you’ve ever seen the dancing waters at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, the fountain in Chicago, or the waterfalls in Hawaii, you’ve got a small picture of the abundance and variety of heaven’s ever-flowing blessing.

That little stream doesn’t move around. It just flows along, doing its God-given task of providing water to every creature and plant within its path. To receive God’s blessing, you just have to get in His stream. How do you do that?

Paul told the Hebrews to draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith (v. 10:22). The Amplified Bible explains it as leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom and goodness. The choice is yours. Your faith can be a cup, a pitcher or a cask to draw waters from heaven’ flowing stream. As your faith grows, you will be able to shout like David, “My cup runneth over!”

Staying in the desert of misery and lack doesn’t make any sense when the Blessing-flow tumbles eternally from the ‘windows of heaven’. For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground, I will pour My Spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring (Is. 44:3).

Once again, we’re back to the need for faith. God said, it [whatever need or desire you have] is of [by] faith, that it might be by grace to the end that the promise might be sure to all the seed (Rom. 4:16). Grace is the stream of ever-flowing goodness from heaven. Faith is the bucket!

Whatever you need, God’s got it ready for you. If you’ve not received it, your faith isn’t big enough for that thing that you seek. Get in the Word. Read His promises out loud. Personalize each verse.

  • God has given me all things that pertain to life and godliness, and I am well able to possess all that God has provided for me.
  • God has given me power to get wealth. He delights in my prosperity.
  • God restored health unto me and healed me of my wounds.
  • I am filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and understanding.

Dig in. Get wet with the water of the Word. You’ll soon be showered with Blessing!

So, jump in! The water’s fine.
