Peace in Believing: The Simple Art of Faith

Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances. ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Let’s talk about your NOW. Not your future, although that’s a part of it. Not your past, although your past certainly affects who and where you are. But NOW is the only place you have control.

It’s been said that the definition of insanity is ‘continuing to do the same things the same way and expecting different results’. The question is, “Do you have the results you want?” If not, what needs to change?

The old adage, “you reap what you sow” is true. If you’ve been a spendthrift, you reap credit card bills that you can’t pay. If you don’t take care of your body, you reap ill health.

For many of us, actually believing in the possibility of change is difficult. We know ourselves. We know our weaknesses all too well. Rather than believe that we can succeed, we tend to believe that we will quit or fail.

Instead, you must believe that what you want is possible, that it’s do-able. That you are capable of achieving it. That you are worthy of having it. You need peace in believing …

One of the Apostle Paul’s prayers for believers is also one of my favorite Bible verses. Romans 15:13 says Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Can you imagine?

All joy.

Peace in believing.

Abounding in hope.

Power.

Filled completely with positive energy and expectation.

Now. Right now.

How would that change your tomorrow If you knew, really knew, that what you hope for is not only possible, it’s actually God’s plan for you? If you KNEW that He wants you to be blessed, successful, healthy, and loved.

Let’s pull that verse apart.

Now

right here, in your present circumstances, whatever is going on in your life. Paul could have started that verse without the word ‘now’. He could easily have said, “May the God of all hope…”, but he didn’t.

I believe he was trying to reinforce the idea that the blessings of God are available right here on earth. We don’t have to wait to experience God’s goodness, grace and blessing until we get to heaven. Of course, we’ll have joy and peace there. It’s the here and now that we have to deal with. That’s where God wants to meet us.

There are dozens of times that God led his writers to use the word “now”. In the Epistles alone, His promises are tied to the word NOW more than a dozen times.

NOW we are delivered from the law … (Rom. 7:6)

There is therefore NOW no condemnation … (Rom. 8:1)

NOW we have received … the spirit of God …(1 Cor. 2:12)

NOW we are full, NOW we are rich (I Cor. 4:8)

NOW thanks be unto God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ (2Cor. 2:14)

NOW … where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2Cor. 3:17)

NOW he … ministers … bread for your food … multiplies your seed sown, and increases the fruits of your righteousness; (2Cor.9:10)

NOW we … are the children of promise. (Gal. 4:28)

NOW …He … is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think (Eph. 3:20)

NOW the Lord of peace give you peace always … (2Thes. 3:16)

NOW the just shall live by faith … (Heb. 10:38)

NOW faith is …

NOW are we the sons of God … (1John 3:2)

All of His promises, based on faith, are for us to have NOW. He does the work; we simply have to trust in Him by faith and walk in love.

The God of Hope

Jesus told the ruler of the synagogue, “Be not afraid, only believe.” (Mark 5:36) The same story in Luke says, Fear not: believe only”. He told the woman with an issue of blood, “Your faith has made you whole.”

You see, it’s not about what we can do, it’s about what we believe. Most of us cannot change our circumstances through our individual efforts alone. But with God, everything is possible. You have to know … believe – without doubt – that God not only can but will help you. When you become peaceful with that knowledge, things will begin to change. Remember He is “the God of Hope”.  The Apostle Paul told us so.

What does that mean for you? It means that hope is more than an ephemeral “I sure hope so”. Spiritual hope is powerful. It creates the image of your dream so that faith has something to believe. Hope keeps you believing the unbelievable. It keeps your thoughts focused on the result you want, not on the roadblocks in between.

Fill you

Notice that Paul didn’t ask us to do anything. He expected God to do what he prayed: To fill us. Your divine Father wants to bless and protect you more than you want to bless and protect your own children. As His child, you receive His goodness and power at work in your life.

A glass does not have to do anything to receive the milk poured into it. In football, the receiver simply has to get himself in position so that he can ‘receive’ the ball when it gets there. The receiver on a telephone waits patiently for someone to call. And a radio, tuned to the right wavelength, receives the signal being broadcast.

What station are you receiving? Are you listening to God FM (fullness and mercy) station or are you tuned in to the AM (always moaning) station in your head.

We are to receive God’s blessings, accept that it is possible to be joyful and peaceful in every circumstance because of the hope we now have that God is working on our behalf.

With All Joy

Do you know what ALL Joy can do for you? Spiritual joy is the result of faith – of knowing that God can and will take care of you. The burden, the stress has been removed and the joy in your spirit flows forth.

God told you to cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you. If you didn’t have to worry about the money, the kids, the job, the spouse, your parents, how would you feel? Joyful! The joy of the Lord is your strength, according to Nehemiah (8:9)

And Peace in Believing

That’s the phrase that started me on this journey many years ago. It is the key message of my mission. I want to help you discover the keys to joy and peace in believing. Those keys will help you find clarity and focus for the changes you want to make.

Hold onto your faith in the midst of turmoil, pressure and challenges. Have peace in believing … without doubt … without reservation. The assurance that all things work together for good. To know, really, truly KNOW that God has a good plan for your life.

Keep believing in the unbelievable.  The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. (Luke 18:27)  Focus on God’s ability and His Word, because He can accomplish the things that we can’t.

That you may abound in hope

The word abound means to be full to overflowing. So much hope that there is no room for doubt. The Word says that Faith is the substance of things hoped for. Without hope, faith has nothing to build. Hope is the blueprint that faith brings to pass.

Choose to believe God’s Word and speak the end result you desire – the promise of God for your life.  When you find out God’s will and get in agreement with it, you can pray in faith.  Faith will reach out and grab hold of the anointing of God to change whatever needs to be changed in your life.

through

I like the fact that we don’t have to do this. It’s done through us. God does the doing, we are entrusted to ‘believe only’.

Faith comes from believing the promises of God. If you don’t know what God said about something, you don’t have any basis for faith. He can’t work through you if you don’t understand and claim ‘by faith’ that His promises are yours. You won’t find true peace in believing until you go to the Word and find out what He said.

Find God’s promises for your situations, then meditate on them, pray about them, and trust God to bring them to pass through the power of the Holy Spirit in you.

 the power

Nothing is stronger or more powerful than God. Be not deceived. The devil will try to make you think that your circumstances will never change, that you can’t win, that you will always lack the things you want.

The Bible declares that you are more than a conqueror, that He has given you victory, that above all things, He wants you to prosper and be in health. His power is what enables these promises and dozens of others to become reality in your life.

If His Word – His power – is the vehicle, faith is the key that starts the engine. Keeping your soul and spirit in line with God’s Word will open the flood gates of the power of the Holy Spirit in you.

of the Holy Ghost.

We all know about the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. Gen. 1:2 says that the [Holy] Spirit hovered over the waters. The power of Spirit implemented the plans of God for the earth and all mankind. That same Spirit is the power that works in you. Trust it.

Did you know that you can command angels? Ps. 103 says they act on His Word. And you can speak His Word out of your mouth. That, my friend, is power – the power of the Holy Spirit in you. The power to release angels on your behalf.

The Holy Spirit in you can help you change your self-image and your life. Meditating on The Word will ultimately manifest the joy, peace in believing, power and hope that you seek.

The Result

You can have just enough or more than enough – it’s up to you! You may think that God limits your asking, but Matt. 21:22 says, “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive”.  ALL THINGS! How much joy and peace in believing will you have when all your needs are met?

God wants you to understand how much He desires to cause overflow in your life. When you truly comprehend His love, you will also receive abundant hope, all joy, spiritual power, and peace in believing.
