Be Fruitful and Multiply – 4 Keys to Tap the Power of God’s Blessing

The blessing, it makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.

I spent a week at the shore recently. Standing at ocean’s edge (or atop a mountain, or beside a bubbling creek or watching a night sky) is great therapy. It helps one realize the magnitude of God’s creation and the perfectness of His plan.

Now, recognize that He designed all of it for us, His family. He wants us to enjoy our lives, to experience the goodness that surrounds us. That’s why He BLESSED us … because He’s a good Abba, Daddy, Father. He told us to ‘Be fruitful and multiply’ (Gen. 1:28). Every time He said ‘BE’, something happened! He has already done His part to bless us.

Now, it’s our turn. Whatever you need or want is available by believing and claiming the promises in His Word. Here are a few examples:

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. (Ps. 34:4)

Goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life (Ps. 23:10)

You shall not want; [instead] your cup runs over! (Ps. 23:1, 8)

I always knew if I wanted something from my dad, I’d better do the things he told me to do. I can’t say I always liked it (cleaning, dishes, yard work or whatever), but it was the best way to gain his favor. Of course, I always had enough to eat, a place to live and clothes to wear. But the special stuff – well, I needed to be grateful for what I already had and be obedient to do what he said.

As a parent, God is no different. His Word is full of promises to us. It is also full of instruction to help us maximize The Blessing in our own lives. Here are four keys that will help us do exactly as He commanded – be fruitful and multiply.

Grow your faith. Promises of abundance and blessing abound in God’s Word. Spend time meditating on those promises until they become powerful (fruitful) in your spirit. You’ll know when that happens because joy and peace expand with your faith. You will know that you know His Word is a direct promise to you. As your faith grows and multiplies, so will your Blessings.

Practice love. Faith works by love. Eliminate strife, anger, selfishness and self-pity. Focus on being the blessing God wants you to be. Walk in love, compassion and forgiveness. Stay focused on His promises instead of your hurts. Let love be fruitful in your life. Multiply it and share it with everyone.

Prove your patience. God doesn’t function on our timetable. Give Him the latitude to work out your situations in His way. James 1:4 says, ‘let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.’ Patience works on your behalf. Coupled with faith and gratitude, patience can accomplish anything you need. God said so.

Hold onto peace. Peace has power, just like faith, patience and love. Let it be your umpire, deciding your thoughts, words and actions. When Jesus was born, the angels proclaimed ‘peace’ to the world (Luke 2:4). Jesus gave us His peace (John 14:27). So if it’s not peaceful, stop. Something is out of balance. Change your thoughts, attitudes, words or actions. Stay in peace. It will multiply your joy, goodness and blessing.

Be fruitful and multiply. If you will believe, walk in love, be patient and stay peaceful, you will see the ‘glory [abundance, riches, blessing] of the Lord’ in abundance! Then, all you need to do is say ‘thank You’!
