The Power of Truth to Change Your Reality

Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. ~ Psalm 25:5

It is not possible to think two thoughts at the same time. You can read and play a computer game and watch TV in the same time block, (I do it all the time!) but you are missing one while you give your attention to the other.

There can really be only one ‘authority’, one voice in your mind at any given time. If you give the newspaper credence by believing its words as ‘true’, then you have just decided that other sources, like the Bible, are not valid. And what you believe carries the highest authority and power for your own life.

Consider these statements:

Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Deut. 5:7) God is saying that there can be only one power. To tap into that power, you have to give it the place of authority. Anything, any thought, that takes precedence over His Word changes the voice of authority in your life. And that changes your results.

I am the LORD that healeth thee. (Ex. 15:26) Are you willing to believe God, to accept the truth of His statement? Or do you believe the symptoms in your body, claiming the disease instead of healing? You choose your reality with your attention.

But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth. (Deut. 8:18) Do you trust His promises for prosperity and abundance, or do you worry and stew about losing your job?

Which thought do you choose? Like that poor dog, your mind is always trying to sift through a thousand thoughts to determine which are the most consistent, which have the greatest authority in your experience, what matters most to you.

Now I know that the concept is easy to understand. Do you want coffee or tea? Steak or chicken? A red shirt or blue? We’re used to making choices about everything.  “I’ll
have the chicken, and a cup of tea, please.” What you choose becomes your reality.

BUT, we forget that our thoughts and words are choices as well – powerful choices that can change the course of our lives. “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he …” (Prov. 23:7)

God told the Israelites in Deuteronomy 30:19 that “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: THEREFORE CHOOSE LIFE, that both thou and thy seed may live.”  The choice is yours. And what you choose will become the truth of your personal experience – even if it is not God’s ideal plan for you.

Of course, you have to know what His Word says before you can put its power to work on your behalf. Divine Truth is unchanging, perfect. If you are willing to accept God’s Word as the final authority for your life, you can reap the rewards of His promises.

The next time you are faced with a difficult choice, take
the time to examine what kind of reality you really want? What matters most? Your
choice will determine your outcome. And that will become the reality you
experience.
