Coping with Caregiving: This is a test; this is only a test …

No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; He’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; He’ll always be there to help you come through it~ (I Cor. 10:13 TMB)

You may wonder how I get all the info I write about. Well, my life has been the proving ground. At present, we’re playing caregivers for my father-in-law, 850 miles from home. Some of you know just what we’re dealing with. It was unplanned, and the stay is running longer than expected. Thank goodness for laptops and cell phones ! I can keep in touch with my office back home – and still be here while I’m needed.

Age and health problems need extra hands – and we’ve volunteered, at least for a while. It’s turned out lives upside down, but …

We’ve done this before – for my mom, and on a lesser scale, a few aunts and uncles. My heart goes out to all caregivers, and I urge you to take care of yourself, too. Often, the more care they need, the less you get. Lack of sleep, constant interruptions, meals, meds, personal care and emotional support can strip your energy and peace. Hang in there.

Whether you’re a caregiver, a parent, a divorceé, widowed, or just dealing with life’s everyday issues, I hope you realise that everything is temporary. In the meantime, whatever you’re coping with, breathe. You can handle it. I believe in you.
