Finding Your Authentic Self – Key #2: Take Control of Your Emotions

Feelings of doubt, insecurity and fear are just that – feelings. And feelings are as changeable as the tides. They are subjective mental interpretations of external events.

Except for life-threatening situations, fear is a learned response, a habit. It is a distorted mental perception. Fear is faith in negative circumstances or results.

The Bible tells us repeatedly to ‘be not afraid’. Face your fears and insecurities. Allow yourself to push past your perceived limitations. You are more than a conqueror (Rom. 8:37). Refuse to fear. Remove the word FEAR from your vocabulary! Faith will overcome your negative emotions.

Use the dominion God gave you to govern your feelings, instead of letting your feelings rule you. Do not give other people the power to upset your day or ruin your life. Release anger, fear, frustration, irritation, and every other negative emotion.

Take command. Do not be held hostage by negative emotions. Treat them like a child and sidetrack them with another activity that will change your focus. You will find yourself forgetting to be mad, frustrated, or depressed.  Instead, let love govern your emotions and your life. God has promised that ‘Love never fails’ (I Cor. 13:8).
