What’s Your I.D.? – Three Key Questions to Help You Discover Your Individual Destiny

“As long as we are persistent in our pursuit of our deepest destiny, we will continue to grow. We cannot choose the day or time when we will fully bloom. It happens in its own time.” ~ Denis Waitley

We all have an ID. I’m Jen’s mom, Ed’s wife, and Deb’s employer. I’m ‘coach’ to several clients. I am also friend, sister, aunt and niece. Who are you?

When someone asks for your ID, you hand over your driver’s license. The IRS wants your Social Security number. But none of those ID’s identifies who you really are or your purpose in Life, your unique Individual Destiny.

So, what is your ID, the thing or things that you are uniquely qualified to do to bless the world around you? Who are you, really?

Do you know that God has a good plan for your life? He said it is a “plan to prosper you and not to harm you” (Jer. 29:11). In addition, Proverbs 3:1 says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Notice that the last word in that verse is plural. You will follow many paths in life and take on many roles and responsibilities. Find the thing within you that most blesses others and you will find the channel for your wealth, blessing and destiny. You are uniquely designed to reach out to others with your individual gifts, talents, resources and time. It is that mutual blessing – giving and receiving each others’ gifts and talents – that causes mankind to prosper. For example, I’m a good coach, but I take my car to a good mechanic, and get my hair cut by a good stylist.

To find your Individual Destiny, take some time to make a list of answers to the following questions.

  • What am I good at?
  • What gives me joy?
  • What about me blesses others?

The places where those three lists intersect give you clues to your place of service, your unique Individual Destiny. The answers to those questions help you answer the age-old query, “Why am I here?”

Your destiny, your place of blessing, is something that is easy for you. After all, God has gifted you with the talents and resources to do that very thing. To others, it may be difficult, but for you, it’s a breeze!

Every person on earth is here for a reason. We each have a personal mission, a contribution to make that blesses others. Every decision you make is a step either toward or away from your Individual Destiny, your place of service.

You may not have all the answers, but you know enough now to get started. God never gives you the complete picture. He expects you to act in faith, taking one step at a time. Your faith, combined with action, will lead you to your own Individual Destiny.
