Power of Believing: Change Your Mind, Change Your World

If you do not have solid beliefs, you cannot build a stable life. Beliefs are like the foundation of a building, and they are the foundation to build your life upon. – Alfred A. Montpert

It’s been said that the definition of insanity is continuing to do the same things the same way and expecting different results. The question you have to ask yourself is, “Do I have the results I want?” If not, what has to change?

The old adage, “you reap what you sow” is true. A farmer knows if he wants a harvest of corn, he’d better not plant beans. If you’ve been a spendthrift, you reap credit card bills that you can’t pay. If you don’t take care of your body, you reap ill health.

You know, as well as I do, that lifestyle changes, attitude changes, mental adjustments are easier to talk about than to accomplish. For instance, it’s easy to talk about losing weight, but are you really willing to give up the potato chips and ice cream? Do you actually maintain an exercise program to keep your body strong and flexible? And, let’s face it, physical changes are easier to make than mental and spiritual ones.

Attitude and action are the keys to any successful endeavor. You must know the result you want and be willing to hang on to that dream or goal NO MATTER WHAT. Then you have to actually move toward it. Develop a plan; make the changes necessary, take targeted action…..

But first, before anything else, you have to believe that what you want is possible, that it’s doable. That you are capable of achieving it. That you are worthy of having it. That you deserve to reap the benefits if you sow the proper actions.

For many of us, actually believing in the possibility of change is difficult. We know ourselves. We know our weaknesses all too well. Rather than believe that we can succeed, we tend to believe about ourselves that we will quit or fail. That’s when we need to trust in a power higher than us to help us accomplish our goals and dreams.

Can you really believe that God is interested in your life? That He cares about every little detail of your relationships, your projects, your aspirations? Well, He does. He has said that He wants your life to be filled with His joy and peace. He created you to be a unique person. He placed the hopes and dreams inside you so that you would cooperate with Him to accomplish them.

In Deuteronomy 28, God promised the Israelites that if they would obey His commandments, He would bless them beyond anything they could imagine. Anywhere – in the city or in the country – all the time. He told them they would be lenders, not borrowers, above and not beneath, blessed every time they went in or came out.

Years ago when I was going through a tough financial situation, I started to think about that all the time. Every time I went through a door, I said, “Lord, I’m going out. I’m coming in. Thank You for blessing me.” I know it sounds trite, but it helped me visualize the possibility of blessing in my life. God meets us where we are, and that’s where I was.

You see, it’s not about what we can do, it’s about what we believe. Most of us cannot change our circumstances through our own efforts alone. But with God, all things are possible.  Jesus told his followers, “Fear not, only believe”. You have to know … believe – without doubt – that God not only can help you, He will help you. When you become peaceful with that knowledge, things will begin to change in your life.
