Be More, Have More, Help More

You’ve got to be before you can do and do before you can have.” In short, you have to be a person of character and do the right things, and then you can have the things you really want. ~Zig Ziglar

You’ve heard about BFF. For those who are technologically challenged, that’s texting shorthand for “best friends forever”. Now I’d like to share a new code: BHH.

As I counsel clients, I am constantly amazed at how little their lives change from year to year. They work at the same job, watch the same TV shows, and maintain the same routine. Week after week. Month after month. They seem to have forgotten … or never even thought about … the possibility of personal growth beyond the diploma.

Jim Rohn put it this way, “Every life form seems to strive to its maximum except human beings. How tall will a tree grow? As tall as it possibly can.  Human beings, on the other hand, have been given the dignity of choice. You can choose to be all or you can choose to be less.  Why not stretch up to the full measure of the challenge and see what all you can do?”

You see, learning and development do not stop when the school door closes behind you. There are books to read, courses to take, life lessons to learn. No matter where you are, your path continues toward infinite horizons.

Think about nature. Every living thing is constantly growing. When a plant stops growing, it begins to rot. Tomatoes are wonderful, but you have to pick them during the growth cycle when the fruit is firm. Birds instinctively seek the strongest trees for their nests.

Your continued growth is imperative for two reasons. First, it blesses you. The more benefit you provide, on your job, for instance, the more valuable you are. Your income is a direct result of your personal development.

Second, it blesses others. You cannot teach what you do not know. You cannot influence your children, your friends, or those around you if you do not have the solutions they seek.

Here is an excerpt from my journal just a few days ago. “I must grow myself to be able to help anyone else grow. I must become someone else to be worthy of the gifts, talents and money God have given me. I need to become more so that I can have more, so that I can help more.”

It is a universal law that you cannot give what you do not have. You must grow in love to share love with others. You need wisdom for yourself before you can teach someone else. You must have “more than enough” if you want to give some away.

“Everyone and everything was created to solve a problem.  When you don’t activate your potential, you steal from yourself and those who desperately need your solution.”  ~ Mike Litman

You can become anything you want to be. You can start today to develop your own gifts and talents. The world needs your potential. Begin now to become more. Not only will you have more, you will be able to help others more. BHH. Spread the word.
