Finding Victory and Peace despite Disappointment and Turmoil

Disappointment to a noble soul is what cold water is to burning metal: it strengthens, tempers, intensifies, but never destroys it. ~ Eliza Tabor

Most of my life, I’ve counseled others to find something good in every situation.

I tell people, “You are stronger than you think you are.”

I remind them, “This is a test; this is only a test.”

I ask them, “Will it still matter next Tuesday?” It’s my interpretation of the age-old philosophy, “Don’t sweat the small stuff: it’s all small stuff.”

My personal philosophy of life has always been “Be a blessing”.

I know all that.

For the last few days, however, I have struggled for calmness and peace. I prayed and ranted and pleaded and prayed again for sense and reason, not emotion and pain. With God’s blessing and spiritual comfort, I was able to leave the chaos of feeling and reassert my faith.

I was able to set aside a sense of betrayal and offer love and compassion to the very people who hurt me so deeply. I have rearranged my own life, my own plans to accommodate their needs. Thankfully, I responded in Love.

I tell you all this to encourage you. To tell you that ‘you are stronger than you think you are’. To remind you that “this, too, shall pass”. To say to you, “You are not alone, I’ve been there.” And to encourage you that walking in Love is always the best response because “Love never fails.”

I don’t know how my situations will play out. There may be more emotional challenges. But I do know that God has told us, “You are more than a conqueror. I have given you the victory.”

The victory we have is over our own emotions and selfish tendencies. We can conquer unforgiveness, anger, depression and fear. The fight may not be easy, but the rewards are great: calmness, peace, love, joy and, ultimately, blessing.

May you find peace in believing that God has a good plan for you, no matter what earthly circumstances you may face. I believe in you.
