You Can’t Go Forward Lookin’ Back

With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts. ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

I have three close friends who are going through a divorce after more than 30 years of marriage. Life and family dissolved. Lifestyle and security ripped apart. I remember the pain. Sometimes hysteria. Often anguish.

I also know from experience that even the deepest wounds heal. I know that the Universe holds a place of harmony and peace for each of us, a place of blessing, abundance and growth. Regardless of how others perceive or treat us.

I know that they will each follow their own paths to healing. And I know that, ultimately, they will create new lives for themselves. How fast that happens depends on their attitude and mindset.

You see, you can’t move forward, lookin’ back. You can’t drive a car very far by looking in the rear view mirror.  You’ll never get  to your destination, unless your backing into the garage!

None of my friends asked for this to happen. They didn’t expect or anticipate it. It just happened (we won’t go into the possible causes now). But each of them are choosing to focus on the present and the future, not the past.

If you’re dealing with a major life crisis-a death, divorce, or critical illness-keep lookin’ forward. Find the blessing in each moment, even if it’s no more than a hot cup of tea or a minute of peace.

Know that we all deal with the stresses and crises of life. Take comfort that you’re not alone. You’re in good company, and you will survive.  Just keep lookin’ forward.

Until the next time,

God bless you and yours.
